Welcome to the new website of the Barnsley Central Conservative Association.

The modern Conservative party has a compelling manifesto and will bring a much needed re vitalization and energy to government. Central to this is a cast iron commitment to the NHS and a coherent plan to get the economy back on its feet.

One major issue that we are consulting with local business on is jobs. We need more jobs in Barnsley – the Conservative manifesto pledges to cut corporation tax, remove taxes on new job, create a major roll out of apprenticeship schemes and oversee a wholesale reduction in red tape for business. This combined with a coherent plan to stabilize the economy and reduce the country’s debt should result in real change for the better.

On a personal level, I am a ‘clean slate’ candidate. I have become increasingly disillusioned with the government and politics in general over the last decade; from the political expediency which took us to war in Iraq to the expenses scandal to the bankrupting of our economy – which is unforgivable especially since we went through such a prolonged period of prosperity when the country should have been saving rather than spending. We need a return to common sense policies and decency in politics.

The reality is that after 12 years of power the Labour Government has run out of steam and energy. It really is time for a change. We are a small but fast growing and active association who are working hard in the town. If you are interested in joining our association, or would like to get in touch to tell us what issues matter to you or if you would liketo hear about what we are doing locally please do get in touch. About Me

About Piers

I was selected as the prospective parliamentary candidate for Barnsley Central in November 2009. To give you a bit of background on myself I was born in Yorkshire and went to Ampleforth College – a catholic boarding school near York before attending Bristol University where I got a first in Human Geography. I have been working in the film industry for the last ten years and have been producing films for the last five years in America, Mexico, Australia, Puerto Rico and of course Yorkshire ! A key part of my job is making ideas happen, generating ideas, building teams, raising investment and getting things done – skills hopefully that I will be able to bring to a variety of projects in Barnsley.

Other than work I have been involved in a variety of projects including organizing an agenda setting conference ‘Rural Regeneration : Opportunity in a Dynamic Countryside’ which attracted 400 delegates at Westminster. I also was on the Board of Bradford’s successful bid to become UNESCO’s first City of Film.

I have been married to Kate who is a teacher, for seven years and have three daughters Rose, Evie and Bay.
